Deciphering the role of wear particles in cellular and molecular interactions during aseptic implant loosening in biomimetic 3D in vitro models (A09*)

Subject Area Orthopaedics, Traumatology, Reconstructive Surgery
Term since 2026
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 426335750

The project aims to develop functional in vitro models of orthopedic implant interfaces with soft tissues, specifically bone marrow and synovial membrane. Focusing on aseptic implant loosening and wear particle-induced disease, the project will investigate the molecular mechanisms elicited by wear particles in the respective tissues, including the identification and validation of disease-associated molecular signatures in patient-specific models. This approach will allow the detection of early disease events, providing a critical foundation for timely detections and interventions (reaction) to prevent severe implant-associated complications or failure.
