The project investigates how linguistic and political factors modulate cross-linguistic influence and language change. To this end, we compare how early bilingual speakers of French in France who have also acquired a regional minority language since childhood (Basque, Catalan, Corsican, Portuguese) use definite articles in their two languages for generic and possessive marking, and with proper names. Since French has a long tradition of extreme policies for the promotion of French, bidirectional influence between French and the minority language is expected.
