Interindividual Variation at the Syntax-Pragmatics Interface (C01)
Subject Area
General and Comparative Linguistics, Experimental Linguistics, Typology, Non-European Languages
Term
since 2026
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 551281144
This project explores the link between different speakers’ linguistic performance and cognitive traits. We will test comprehension of different phenomena in German including illusions, interface licensing, and pragmatics with psycho- and neurolinguistic methods, and link data to participants’ cognitive traits (including autism-related factors) gained from comprehensive background assessments. Results will contribute insights on underlying reasons for variability in performance and the necessary amount of flexibility in models of linguistic competence to the Theory of Noise and the Algorithm of Interpretation.
