With the triumph of post-factual politics and the rapid development of artificial intelligence, the old question of the reliability of visual media is being raised anew. Fake news, deep fakes and synthetically generated images are giving rise to justified fears of disinformation in a 'post-truth era'. The project focuses on artistic interventions that deliberately use fakes or fictions to expose the rules of prevailing truth games, question their image politics and, beyond that, explore the subversive, emancipatory or even utopian potential of the untrue.
