Project Details
Multivalency as structure-defining principle for the generation of functional supramolecules (A01)
Subject Area
Organic Molecular Chemistry - Synthesis and Characterisation
Term
from 2008 to 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 32049920
Project A1 synthesizes and studies multivalent, multiply threaded (pseudo)rotaxanes that are switched by external stimuli. Porphyrin spacers do not only guarantee the correct placement of binding sites, but are also phot- and electrochemical functional units, whose properties can be defined in a controlled way by switching. Supramolecular polymers act as ¿molecular muscles¿ and contract/expand to generate precisely controlled mechanical motion. This is based on exact thermodynamic analyses of allosteric, chelate and interannular cooperativity of the multivalent bond.
