Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse

The productivity of higher plants is linked to their ability to buffer changes in the concentrations of essential and toxic ions by vacuolar sequestration. Although it is generally assumed that transport across the tonoplast is energized by two proton pumps, the vacuolar H+-ATPase (V-ATPase) and the vacuolar H+-pyrophosphatase (V-PPase), their functional relation and relative contributions to vacuolar and cytosolic pH-homeostasis during cold- and osmotic stress had remained largely unaddressed. Funding of our project within FOR1061 has allowed us to make important contributions concerning the energetization of vacuolar transport and vacuolar biogenesis. Perhaps even more important, we have established very fruitful collaborations that will last much longer then the funding period.
