Fluctuations and Correlations in Semiconductor Spintronics

Subject Area Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics
Term from 2008 to 2012
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 94717163

Spintronics [1], i.e. the control and measurement of the spin degrees of freedom of the electron, is gaining increasing importance for the next generation of electronic devices, sensors, as memory, and for computing and information processing [2]. With decreasing dimensions of the electronic devices (below 40 nm) the estimation of their fidelity requires the analysis of the noise, or the correlations of current fluctuations. Much work has been done in this direction, but the analysis of the noise in spintronics devices is still an emerging field. The aim of this project is to advance our understanding of spin and current fluctuations in spintronic devices, e.g., systems of semiconductor quantum dots, under non-equilibrium conditions and in the presence of interactions.
