Final Report Abstract
Im Forschungsfokus des Graduiertenkollegs stand die werkstoffklassenübergreifende Forschung an Materialien und Werkstoffen für Anwendungen bei hohen Einsatztemperaturen und umfasste sowohl Metalle, Keramiken und Beschichtungen. Einher ging damit ein interdisziplinäres Lehrkonzept, was deutlich über den Fokus der eigenen Arbeiten hinausging und auch neue Formen der Lehre miteinbezog. Im Fokus der Lehre stand die strukturierte Ausbildung bzw. Qualifikation hervorragender Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler. Dabei hat sich die Zusammenarbeit zwischen den beiden Standorten Erlangen und Bayreuth sehr positiv entwickelt und wird auch langfristig davon profitieren. Die Abschlussbilanz fällt sehr positiv aus. Das Konzept einer intensiven Betreuung durch die Projektleiterin oder Projektleiter, häufig zusammen mit einem Nachwuchswissenschaftler hat sich sehr bewährt. Mit der Übernahme des Koreferats durch eine vorbestimmte Patin bzw. Paten konnte i.d.R. ein verzögerungsfreier Abschluss des Dissertationsvorhabens gewährleistet werden. Von Graduierten finanziert aus Kollegmitteln werden 22 Promotionen Ende 2015 erfolgreich abgeschlossen sein, weitere 13 Promotionsvorhaben werden in Kürze abgeschlossen werden. Lediglich 2 begonnene Promotionsvorhaben werden voraussichtlich zu keinem Abschluss kommen, da die Kollegiaten von der Industrie abgeworben wurden. Durch zahlreiche Auslandaufenthalte und Konferenzreisen, aber auch durch persönliche Kontakte mit Gastwissenschaftlerinnen und –wissenschaftler haben die Graduierten Aufnahme in Wissenschaftsnetzwerke gefunden. Postdoc-Anstellungen und Leitungspositionen in angesehenen Institutionen wie z.B. den Universitäten in Cambridge, UK, und Berkley, USA, dem Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung oder dem Dechema Forschungsinstitut belegen die positive Wahrnehmung ehemaliger Kollegsmitglieder. Die Herausforderungen durch die Verteilung auf die beiden Standorte Erlangen und Bayreuth wurde u.a. mit Hilfe des „GradKoBus“ erfolgreich bewältigt. Für die Graduierten war dies eine gute Gelegenheit über den eignen Tellerrand hinweg zu sehen. Bei aller Zusammenarbeit und Vernetzung wirkte sich die interne Konkurrenz zwischen den Graduierten in Erlangen und Bayreuth positiv auf die Arbeiten aus. Der wissenschaftliche Ertrag u.a. in Form von mehr als 150 Publikationen in internationalen Zeitschriften ist sehr gut.
