SFB 603:  Modal-Based Analysis and Visualization of Complex Scenes and Sensor Data

Subject Area Computer Science, Systems and Electrical Engineering
Term from 1998 to 2007
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5482283

The long-term goal of the projects within the collaborative research centre 603 is the development and test of theoretically funded systematic solutions for image-processing and computer graphics problems. These solutions are intended to lead to consistent and comprehensive methods for the analysis and design of systems which are capable of interpreting and visualizing pictures, sensor data, and scene descriptions of a realistic complexity. First promising results in the first period of funding of the collaborative research centre show that the designated targets are realistic. The theoretically well founded integration of data acquisition and surface approximation, the new approaches to probabilistic modelling, as well as the dissemination of new approaches for modelling to other projects can serve as examples; the integration of results from analysis, simulation, and data sythesis has been shown in various ways. In addition, three project groups have established a common concept for their further proceeding. A point of focus is the development and analysis of different types of models for different geometric structures. These methodologies are evaluated in the common projects fromdifferent faculties and disciplines: The developed technics are applied to the analysis and visualization of sensordata from engineering and medicine.
