Identifying spatial and temporal drought stress variability using canopy temperature measurements and simulation modelling

Subject Area Plant Cultivation, Plant Nutrition, Agricultural Technology
Term from 2009 to 2013
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 100390862

The research project aims to use tractor based canopy temperature measurements in conjunction with micrometeorological measurements as an operational tool for characterising soil water characteristics site specifically in agricultural fields. This will be done using a simulation modelling and model inversion approach. A crop growth model shall then be used to calculate winter wheat yield potentials site specifically. For this purpose specific experiments on a plot scale in a rain out shelter and at the field level are planned to supplement existing extensive experimental data set for further model refinement. Special emphasis will be given on establishing stomata resistance functions and on problems of infrared based measurements of canopy temperature in sparse canopies.
