Synthesis, structure and functionalities of oxoanionic compounds with metals of the groups 4 - 10

Subject Area Solid State and Surface Chemistry, Material Synthesis
Term from 2009 to 2018
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 153664244

In continuation and expansion of the first funded period of the project this proposal aims at the development of preparative routes for the syntheses of novel compounds of group 4-10 metals with complex oxoanions. The respective reactions will be carried out mainly in highly concentrated acids and/or their anhydrides under harsh conditions. Furthermore metathetical reactions in various solvents as well as solid state reactions will be performed. The structures and the properties of the compounds obtained will be characterized comprehensively. These characterizations include theoretical analyses, magnetic measurements and spectroscopic investigations and will lead to a deep understanding of the structure-property relations of these types of compounds. Special emphasis shall be put on the thermal behaviour of the compounds. Details of the decomposition reactions as monitored by thermoanalytical methods shall help to identify those candidates that might be useful precursors for the structured deposition of noble metals and metal oxides, respectively. The investigations of the precursorpotential will be carried out in collaboration. They should finally lead on one hand to nobel metal structures on a micro- or even nanometer scale, and on the other hand to ultrathin metal oxide layers with interesting electrical properties.
