The goal of the first phase of the research project was systematically to examine the topographical references in the biblical book of Genesis. In conjunction with a scholarly commentary in preparation by the applicant, the research concentrated on the place names in the primeval history (Genesis 1-11). Methodologically, the project sought to integrate historical, geographic, and literary approaches. The research goals were fulfilled and are available as a monograph, entitled ("Die Ortsangaben im Buch Genesis") and with several contributions to academic journals and encyclopedias.
