Central administration and tissue banking

Subject Area Hematology, Oncology
Term from 2011 to 2016
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 179902948

The success of our research group depends upon scientific exchange, integration and mentorship of young scientists and clinical investigators combined with equal opportunities and a family-friendly atmosphere, and access to a well-defined tissue bank. This will be accomplished by establishing a secretary/coordinator with a budget to fund travels between the groups and workshops. In addition, web and phone conferences along with a user-friendly website are essential to facilitate our communication and collaboration. Moreover, we intend to specifically develop the careers of female scientists by a professional mentoring/coaching program and by providing support for child care to facilitate the combination of science and family. Furthermore, clinical investigators will be an integral part of our consortium and assist with the translational process of basic science into preclinical and clinical applications in Dresden and Würzburg. Both institutions will pay half of their salaries. Finally, a well-defined tumor tissue bank that is accessible to the applicants and their collaborators will also be crucial to validate our basic findings in the human setting.
