Subject Area Ancient History
Classical, Roman, Christian and Islamic Archaeology
Term from 2012 to 2015
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 203817485

The project KENOM aims to significantly increase the digital presence of scientifically processed stacks of coins and ensure a steady growth of numerous other stocks by making appropriate tools available. A broad spectrum of the re-usability of the collections is to be guaranteed through a large-scale, cross-state networking of the collections of Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony and Thuringia and through integration of different types of collections. The project foresees to define stringent work flows that allow even small institutions at reasonable cost to offer their stock information online on the new platforms that are currently being developed. On its completion the project should provide a convenient access to Virtual Coin Collection, which has been so far open only to selected specialists of the stacks. Further, the project also intends to contribute to the digitization of large quantity of material that would facilitate to increase the presence of the German collections both nationally - including the imminent German Digital Library - and internationally - in Europeana.
