Mechanisms of hepatic stellate cell differentiation in liver (A03)

Subject Area Biochemistry
Term from 2012 to 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 190586431

The aim of this project is to characterize the intracellular signalling pathways and control mechanisms involved in the activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSC) in the context of regenerative liver processes. The work program will focus on: (i) E-Ras-dependent signalling pathways for the maintenance of HSC quiescence, (ii) the function of non-canonical N1ICD signalling pathways and (iii) the role of arginase-1 in quiescent HSC, (iv) the role of Rock in the morphological differentiation of HSC, (v) the mechanism of inhibition of the Mst1/2 pathway in activated HSC, and (vi) the reversibility of activated HSC to their quiescent state. As a result, this project will contribute to a detailed molecular understanding of associated signalling networks as on/off switches in quiescent versus activated HSC.
