Project Details
Priming of defence against herbivores feeding upon Arabidopsis thaliana (B04)
Subject Area
Organismic Interactions, Chemical Ecology and Microbiomes of Plant Systems
Term
from 2012 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 190578797
Pieris brassicae oviposition primes defence of Arabidopsis thaliana plants against impending larval herbivory. This priming effect is linked to increased expression of primable genes and enhanced levels of phytohormones and flavonoids. Project B4 aims to elucidate i) the response pattern of egg-primed plants to larval herbivory, ii) the involvement of chromatin modifications during establishment of the primed response and iii) the impact of the plant’s longevity (annual, biannual) on the primability and the persistence of the primed state. Project B4 will use this knowledge to iv) compare the mechanisms of anti-herbivore priming by oviposition with anti-herbivore priming by prior larval herbivory.
