Numerical optimization of shape microstructures (C06)

This project deals with microstructures arising in elastic shape optimization in the context of bulk elasticity and thin elastic structures. A particular focus is on structures, which can be manufactured using 3D printing devices and their use for the optimization of biocompatible polymer scaffolds in bone tissue engineering. To this end, free material optimization on the macro-scale will be combined with optimal, printable cell structures on the micro-scale. Thereby, methods for shape optimization under stochastic loading and risk averse optimization strategies will be applied. Furthermore, we will investigate the a posteriori control of the modeling error in the context of printable microstructures. Finally, shape optimization methods will be used to understand microstructures in shape memory materials.
