Differenzierung von Bipolar I Störung, Bipolar II Störung und unipolarer Depression basierend auf neurobiologischen Veränderungen in Grays behavioralem Aktivierungs- und Inhibitionssystem (BAS/BIS)
Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse
The present project investigated approach/ avoidance behavior and rumination that have been associated (1) with the behavioral activation/ inhibition system and (2) with affective disorders. We had hypothesized that it would be possible to distinguish bipolar 1 and 2 disorder from each other and from major depression based on the neural signature associated with these processes. Our pilot data revealed new insight into the neurobiological underpinnings of approach/ avoidance behavior and rumination in healthy individuals. In addition, we could show distinct differences between the three patient groups. However, due to unforeseen changes in the staffing of the project machine learning algorithms allowing to predict the diagnoses for an individual patient instead of merely describing group differences are being only now employed. We expect to publish the results of these analyses in early 2020, and expect that these results will contribute to a better understanding of the etiology of affective disorders.
