Oxytocin and H2S after TBI and hemorrhage with pre-existing early life stress (B03)

We demonstrated in swine with pre-existing coronary artery disease that targeted hyperoxemia i) attenuated brain dysfunction after combined acute subdural hematoma (ASDH)-induced TBI and hemorrhagic shock (HS), and ii) did not impair activation-related immune cell metabolic switching and function. The role of "Early Life Stress (ELS)" as a pre-existing co-morbidity remains a matter of debate. Therefore, we hypothesize that ELS exacerbates brain injury after combined ASDH-induced and TBI HS in a gender-specific manner, and that H2S and/or oxytocin-based treatments mitigate brain damage and neurological dysfunction via reduced oxidative and nitrosative stress, attenuated neuro-inflammation and better maintained mitochondrial function.
