In this program, Ph.D. students of different disciplines and faculties of the University of Karlsruhe (biological engineering, bioprocess engineering, environmental measurement technology, food process engineering, polymer chemistry, water chemistry, water technology) and of the Université Louis Pasteur de Strasbourg CNRS (hydrogeochemistry) investigate the chemical, biological, and physical aspects of interfacial phenomena. The activities focus on the processes in natural waters as well as on the technology of aqueous phases. Properties of interfaces, transport to and through interfaces, and the chemical reactions and biological transformations involving interfaces in aqueous media are studied. The research program is accompanied by a special supervising study program including lectures, seminars, and scientific exchange with guest lecturers from home and abroad. The aim of the program is to promote Ph.D. studies and to encourage interdisciplinary research.
