Applicant Dr. Klaus Ceynowa
Term from 2015 to 2019
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 277030598

The tablatures and partbook manuscripts of the Bavarian State Library by the mid of 17th century are in addition to the music prints (DFG-funded project since February 2012) and the choirbooks (DFG-funded project from December 2012 to November 2015) the third type of written records of the Bavarian courts' music collection in the 16th and 17th centuries. The collection includes two groups of manuscripts, which are connected by their origin and their content: vocal partbooks on the one hand, tablatures with instrumental music on the other hand.In contrast to the choirbooks with almost exclusively sacred works the tablatures and partbook manuscripts include - beside motets and intavolatures of masses - mainly secular music, like chansons, songs, madrigals and dances. The aims of the project are the detailed indexing, the digitization and the online supply of the tablature and partbook manuscripts of the Bavarian State Library up to the 17th century. The digitization and online cataloguing will enable the scientific exploration of the unique collection via Internet. The results of the project wi ll be integrated via RISM online catalogue in the Virtual Library of Musicology (ViFaMusik) and entered in the local- and union catalogue.
