The proposed project aims to support a multi-disciplinary approach to characterise and quantify the infection process of human-pathogenic fungi such as Candida albicans and Aspergillus fumigatus, at the cellular and molecular level. Host-pathogen interaction includes both, processes of the fungal pathogen and the host cells. These and the underlying structures of regulatory pathways will be investigated by analysis of time series data measured after defined and optimal designed perturbations (e.g. stimulations of pathogens by host-cell contact and administration of antifungal drugs to infected host cells) within several projects of the SPP1160. Transcriptomic and proteomic process data together with microbiological and biochemical data will be stored and analysed to support functional genome analysis of both, pathogenic fungi as well as host cells (in vitro, mouse, human). Thus, a common platform will be provided for all members of the Programme in order to interpret genome-wide analyses and interpretations of the generated data. This integrated approach combining several types of data from all projects of the SPP1160 will be assisted by the establishment of a database and data warehouse and shall lead to a comprehensive understanding of host-pathogen interaction in a systems biology attempt.
