The life cycle of higher plants alternates between the diploid sporophytic and the haploid gametophytic generation. RKD transcription factors represent a novel class of gene regulators, which for instance trigger an egg cell-like transcriptome. Our current data suggest that all five members of the Arabidopsis RKD gene family are required for the control of gametophyte development. Based on three established experimental tool sets -i) a series of rkd-mutants, ii) a collection of cell-specific marker lines and iii) micro-dissected transcriptome and methylom Analysis- the project is focused on the detailed functional analysis of the RKD gene network during gametophyte development.
