Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse

Within the DFG project we have made significant progress. A high level summary of the main outcomes would be: 1) We have demonstrated significant variations in the quantities behaviour of the star formation process (the transformation of ISM gas into new stars) as a function of location. These variations depend on the metallicity of the gas, the stellar density and the galaxy morphology. 2) We been able to obtain new prescriptions that describe best the systematic behaviour of star formation dependent on these parameters. 2) We have demonstrated that the IMF of stellar clusters varies significantly and 4) give a quantitative measure of the amplitude of the variation needed to understand a large ensemble of Milky Way stellar clusters.
