The past years have seen an enormous progress in neutrino physics: All the mixing angles and the mass splittings of the neutrino states have been measured. Whereas the mass hier-archy still remains unknown. It has become one of the most pressing questions in neutrino physics. Answering this question is the primary goal of the JUNO project, followed closely by a number of outstanding measurements in particle, astro-, and geophysics. JUNO is a 20 kt liquid scintillator detector located in southern China. It is based on the technologies devel-oped by Chooz, Double Chooz, Borexino, and LENA. For the mass hierarchy measurement, JUNO will detect neutrinos from several nuclear power cores 53 km away. An interference effect in the oscillation pattern will allow for determination of the mass hierarchy.With the support of the DFG the German groups want to jointly participate in JUNO and want to make a visible contribution to the project. Our contribution will be integrated in a European effort in the areas of data analysis, event reconstruction, and detector construction.
