Modulation of neural mechanisms underlying crossmodal predictions (B01)

Subject Area Biological Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience
Cognitive, Systems and Behavioural Neurobiology
Molecular Biology and Physiology of Neurons and Glial Cells
Term since 2016
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 261402652

Using MEG and EEG, we will investigate the dynamics of neural oscillations involved in uni- and crossmodal temporal predictions. Recordings in healthy participants will be combined with studies in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD) who have impairments in updating stimulus predictions and in judging event timing. We will modulate the neural mechanisms underlying temporal predictions by manipulation of relevant sensory cues and by neurostimulation approaches. These will include transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) in healthy participants and deep brain stimulation (DBS) in the patients. Furthermore, we will implement ensemble oscillator models to account for the observed modulation of uni- and crossmodal predictions.
