Early Childhood and Smartphones. Familial Interaction Order, Learning, and Cooperation (B05)

Subject Area Empirical Social Research
Educational Research on Socialization, Welfare and Professionalism
Term since 2016
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 262513311

The project investigates young children’s worldmaking: how they make sense of and thereby bring forth their own ,analog-digital‘ irreducibly ,hybrid‘ worlds. The empirical study sheds light on the co-operative accomplishment of the human and technical sensorium in the context of everyday family interaction with smartphones. The long-term camera-ethnographic study is continued and extended with an intensified focus on sensory practices. The participating children’s increased age requires a multi-method approach, as well as an extension of the research setting to include educational and other contexts beyond the home.
