Clinical and functional relevance of subclonal driver mutations in acute myeloid leukemia (A06)

Subject Area Hematology, Oncology
Human Genetics
Term from 2016 to 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 278529602

Myeloid neoplasia (MDS and AML) can originate from clonal hematopoiesis, a condition in which precursor cell clones already carry somatic mutations yet are still capable of morphologically normal differentiation. Pre-leukemic clones can persist in AML patients in remission after induction chemotherapy. The project will focus on genetic, phenotypic and functional characterization of such pre-leukemic clones. Additionally, we will use the PDX model system to study whether "pre-leukemic" mutations are still essential for survival and growth of fully transformed leukemic clones.
