The transmission of Hadit, the words and deeds of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, is characterized by oral and written practices. Since the 10th century AD at the latest certain methods of transmission and teaching had been established, as proven by teaching certificates and listener annotations in numerous manuscripts. The sub-project analyses a Hadit manuscript from Timurid Shiraz, Iran, by investigating its use in different locations and by different people. By analysing entries for both text transmission and teaching practice as well as Hadit commentaries, the intent is to reconstruct and ascertain Hadit scholarship and teaching on the basis of a manuscript and investigate to what extent regional features are encountered in an otherwise Arabic dominated Hadit science.
