Acquired thermotolerance refers to the improved ability of cells, tissues and organisms to cope with elevated temperature following a prior (priming) exposure to heat. The maintenance of acquired thermotolerance over several days in the absence of heat stress is called thermomemory. The objective of project A6 is to study the role of the mitochondrial heat shock proteins HSP23.5 and HSP23.6, and of autophagy for thermomemory in Arabidopsis thaliana, using a combination of molecular-biological, biochemical and physiological approaches.
