In fundamental models of many-body physics the coupling between fermions and bosons leads to a rich phase structure and dynamical behavior. Our project aims to explore the dynamics of quantum impurities in a bosonic medium (Bose polarons) by means of ultracold mixtures of fermionic and bosonic atoms at extreme mass imbalance. In a concerted theoretical-experimental approach we will study how strong interactions between impurity and medium affect the nonequilibrium time evolution, impurity-medium correlations, and the approach to equilibrium.
