The functional details of stromal sugar accumulation during cold acclimation are only poorly understood. We gained further evidence that chloroplast located sugars are involved in cold acclimation, identified a novel chloroplast located sugar transporter with impact on frost tolerance and showed that that stromal sugar homeostasis affects chloroplast/nucleus signal exchange. A differential envelope proteome identified novel acclimation modulators. Our proposed work helps to understand how these modulators effect acclimation functionally, will broad our understanding of chloroplasts-nucleus signaling during acclimation and reveals how chloroplasts regulate protein abundance of the envelope with critical impact on acclimation.
