Deciphering cellular interactions in CNS macrophage niches in mice and humans by spatial proteogenomics (A01)

Subject Area Molecular and Cellular Neurology and Neuropathology
Immunology
Term since 2017
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 259373024

We will investigate central nervous system (CNS) associated macrophages (CAMs) in CNS border regions in mice and humans through single-cell sequencing and spatial mapping of mRNA and proteins. We will explore the anatomical niches of CAMs, their interactions with adjacent cells as well as with defined stromal cells under homeostatic conditions. Further, we will examine CAMs features and interactions during congenital cytomegalovirus infection (CMV) in mouse and humans. In sum, this project will provide insights into the endogenous immune system at CNS borders during ontogeny, homeostasis and perturbation.
