Dissecting differential functional contributions of parenchymal and non- parenchymal brain macrophages (A02)

Subject Area Experimental Models for the Understanding of Nervous System Diseases
Term since 2017
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 259373024

Advanced transcriptomics and cytometry have begun to molecularly define distinct brain macrophagesin the parenchyma and CNS border locations. Theses cells activate distinct response modules whentriggered in pathology, including pro-inflammatory and dampening signatures. Interference with thesemodules bears potential for future therapies. However, rationale approaches towards this goal willrequire in depth definition of CNS brain macrophage functions. Here we propose to use newlyestablished binary transgenic models based of ‘split Cre’ fragments to dissect macrophage function inCNS infections and neuroinflammation.
