The Neural Mechanisms of Extinction learning (A04)

Subject Area Cognitive, Systems and Behavioural Neurobiology
Term since 2017
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 316803389

The project investigates the cellular and synaptic mechanisms underlying spatial navigation and extinction learning, with a particular focus on the interplay between the hippocampus and the thalamus. We use in vivo electrophysiology, optogenetics, chemo-genetics and in vivo calcium imaging in rodents to identify and manipulate the neuronal circuits that govern spatial learning, memory retrieval and extinction. A special focus lies on the role of arousal and motivation in optimizing hippocampal information encoding.
