Project Details
Development of sex-specific therapeutic approaches towards glucocorticoids-driven metabolic dysfunction (A09)
Subject Area
Endocrinology, Diabetology, Metabolism
Term
since 2017
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 314061271
Project A09 investigates sex-specific differences in adrenal glucocorticoid (GC) signaling, a key regulator of metabolism in human health and disease. While GCs act via the glucocorticoid receptor (GR) to control gene expression, we identified distinct gene and miRNA regulatory patterns between sexes, affecting cholesterol and glucose metabolism. In the next funding period, we will dissect the molecular mechanisms driving these sex-biased differences in GC signaling. Sex-specific miRNA inhibitors and GR cofactors will be evaluated as therapeutic approaches for cardiometabolic disorders.
