Hochauflösende Aufnahmen von Umweltveränderungen in Kaltwasserkorallen Riffen: Geochemische Hinweise aufgezeichnet im Skelett der marinen Bivalve Acesta Excavata
Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse
The main aspect of this project, to establish A. excavata as a proxy archive for cold-water coral reefs, could only be fulfilled to a limited extent. Although A. excavata has increments that allow reconstructions in the range of the lunar cycle, the vital effects that influence the important element ratios such as Mg/Ca, Sr/Ca and Na/Ca are very pronounced and not quantifiable, so that a use is only possible to a limited extent. Special attention should be paid to isotopic proxies in future studies on A. excavata, as these are much less influenced by vital effects in bivalves. Special attention should also be paid to impact of bioerosion such as parasitic foraminifera on geochemical proxy carrier (as well as other parasitic carbonate formers). The above study is probably the first geochemical investigation carried out on parasitic foraminifera. Such specialists could provide interesting insights into different calcification mechanisms.
