Contactless Feeding of Metallic Foils in Micro-Precision Stamping Technology

In the micro-stamping technology, roll-feeding systems are currently used to transport thin metallic foils. The rolls are pressed onto the material with so much pressure, that a force-locked, stick-slip-free connection is established. The high load can have negative influence on the quality of the material surface, or cause material deformation respectively. Lower contact force between the roll and the material on the other hand can result in stick-slip at highly dynamic movements. This can only be avoided by lowering the feed rate. In the proposed research project a new contactless feeding principle will be discovered to transport thin metallic foils to avoid the above mentioned disadvantages. The principle is based on the asynchronous linear motor. Feeding force will be achieved through contactless introduction of Lorentz-Force in the material, which eliminates the above mentioned disadvantages. The principle will be modeled in an FEA model, which will be used to perform studies on the feasibility of this principle. A demonstrator will be built to validate the results of the FEA study.
