Complementary time domain and frequency domain echo suppression for accurate antenna field transformation in arbitrary measurement environments

Subject Area Communication Technology and Networks, High-Frequency Technology and Photonic Systems, Signal Processing and Machine Learning for Information Technology
Term since 2017
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 388836388

In the first part of this research project, combined time domain and frequency domain methods for the suppression of undesired echo signals in antenna measurements have been successfully investigated and established. The conventional time domain methods could be improved considerably and novel frequency domain methods based on virtual beam-forming and source localization could be demonstrated. With the combination of the realized time domain and frequency domain methods, it was possible to achieve very good echo suppression even in highly-reflective environments such as the “Mosquito Chamber” as considered in the project studies. In this continuation project, it is intended to extend the scope of the echo suppression methods to partially coherent and phaseless antenna measurements, which become increasingly important, and to antenna measurements, where the antenna under test and the measurement probe move both during the measurements. Moreover, it is intended to establish echo suppression methods in the form of calibration methods for the echoic environment, where the calibration procedure shall be able to correctly characterize the echoic environment and an unknown antenna under test at the same time.
