Arteries are essential for organ growth, maintenance and repair. Yet, the key cellular and molecular mechanisms that govern artery formation remain incompletely understood. Here, using mouse genetics, advanced imaging, single-cell transcriptomics, and in vitro assays, we will address how intercellular and intracellular signaling platforms in endothelial cells control arterial fate specification, arteriovenous segregation, and other aspects of organ-specific vascular growth and patterning.
