The new concept of Brain Border Compartments (BBCs) fundamentally changes the understanding of glioma development and treatment approaches. Particularly the cervical lymph nodes, the dura and the cranial bone marrow interact with the tumor shaping the tumor immune response. Thus, the project aims to unravel how gliomas modify the immunological land-scape of the BBCs to promote immune evasion. Thereby we will concentrate on the immunomodulatory factors EGFL7 and IL4Rα. The final essential step involves the analysis of new glioma treatment regimes by application of immune cell modulators into the BBCs.
