ILC3-myeloid cell crosstalk during homeostatic maintenance of the epithelial barrier and during IBD (A01)

Recent work has shown that components of the innate immune system, in particular macrophages and innate lymphoid cells (ILC), play important roles in maintaining homeostasis of the intestinal epithelium and may be tar-gets to prevent or slow the progress of IBD. Based on preliminary data from a preclinical model of Crohn’s disease, we hypothesize that the ILC3 cytokine IL-22 provides resistance to inflammation and that an ILC-macrophage module exists at steady-state which is re-programmed during disease. Our goal is to identify new regulatory circuits provided by the innate immune system to protect the epithelial barrier against inflammatory damage.
