Final Report Abstract

A large variety of native and allogeneic mucosal lesions can be seen in fVCA patients and their mucous membranes seem to be more frequently affected by pathological processes than previously thought. A close time relation with the development of skin rejection suggest a mechanistic lineage between immunological processes of both tissue types. Mucosal assessment plays an important role in the pleomorphic allograft rejection process evaluation rather than diagnosis and treatment based on skin only pathology. A closer look at the pathophysiology of mucosal rejection seems necessary to better understand the role of the mucosa for monitoring of facial allografts.
