Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse

We provided an analysis of the Perseid meteors observed in the years between 2010-2016 using SPOSH cameras. For the data reduction a dedicated software was used, developed to exploit the excellent capabilities of the camera. During the seven years of observations a total number of 3.318 double-station meteors were detected from which 934 were identified as Perseids. An activity profile with high temporal resolution was calculated for this meteor stream. From our analysis the predicted Perseid outburst in 2016 could be confirmed. However, not all of the predicted dust trails could be verified from our data. The observations covered the relative long meteor activity of the shower from late July to midto-late August. Our study was based on uniform data acquired with the same optical imaging system, while the reduction of the data was carried out by a special software allowing a detailed characterisation of the Perseid meteor shower. A model describing the interaction of small meteoroids with Earth’s atmosphere was applied to Perseid meteors observed during our field campaigns. The model allowed us to estimate physical properties of the meteor particles, by fitting model parameters to the observed light curves. This model was a first approach to constrain the densities of the meteoroids in the Perseid meteor shower. However, further effects such as fragmentation should be taken into account, especially when studying meteoroids of higher mass. In parallel, we were actively involved in the development of a web-application for reporting fireballs. The application allows sharing of information of events seen simultaneously by eyewitnesses. The web-app offers a visualisation of the locations on a map, from where the same event was observed and reported. In the future, the trajectory of a fireball will be estimated from all event reports and the projection of the meteor path will be included in the visualisation map.
