Compared to the role that imagination plays in our life, our philosophical understanding of this ability is still surprisingly underdeveloped. The project titled Geist und Imagination is designed to remedy these shortcomings and thereby contribute to a deeper and more appropriate understanding of our mind.We would like to explore the role of perception-like imaginations in two basic aspects of our mental life: our perception and action. Relating to these two fundamental areas of the mental, which are the subjects of the two subprojects, we firstly want to examine, in an exemplary way, whether and to what extent imagination shapes large parts of our mental life. Secondly, the theoretical use of the concept of imagination is supposed to solve important problems in the current debates on perception and action. Thus, the assumption about the role of imagination should also prove to be theoretically productive.
