Endothelial disease mechanisms involved in calcific aortic valve stenosis and aortic aneurysm formation in mice and men (B01)

Subject Area Anatomy and Physiology
Cardiology, Angiology
Cell Biology
Term since 2019
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 397484323

Aortic valve stenosis (AS) and aortic aneurysm (AA) develop at specific predilection sites. Our recent evidence indicates that there is extensive molecular heterogeneity of the endothelium. Therefore, we postulate that this defines the location, onset and progression of AS and AA. In this project, we will determine and characterise molecular endothelial markers for the site-specific disease development in mice and humans. We will correlate these findings with drug-induced transcriptomic signatures (repurposing strategy) to develop a potential pharmacological treatment approach.
