Translational Pathology Core (Z04)

Subject Area Biology
Term since 2019
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 413326622

A. Quaas, A. Schultheis and U. Siebolts will provide access to excellent pathology services for both murine and human specimens. During the first funding period, they have successfully built the pathology core and have analyzed countless tumor specimens from several subprojects. They will continue their services by providing immunohistochemistry, fluorescence-in-situ hybridization (FISH), in situ mRNA, building of Tissue Micro Arrays and enrichment of tumor cells for analyses (e.g., through laser microdissection). Furthermore, their assessment of histology of specimens coming from the clinic and tumor content is critical to all subsequent downstream analyses. A central asset provided to the CRC through Z04 is the Cologne Cancer Biobank, which harbors more than 100,000 clinically annotated cancer samples, including numerous SCLC, LCNEC and pulmonary carcinoid samples.
