Final Report Abstract

In the network Documentary Research on and in Schools (NeDoS), the aim was to develop a concept for documentary school education research. This refers to a research direction in which school and school related topics are investigated using the Documentary Method respectively on the basis of the praxeological sociology of knowledge. To achieve this goal, six workshops should be held in which partial aspects of the concept should be discussed with invited experts. In view of the Corona pandemic that started at the beginning of the project, all six originally planned workshops were held as online video conferences. The shift to the digital led to an intensive exchange among the network members, which contributed to the network achieving its goal. A multilayered description of the concept of documentary school education research has emerged, which, with a view to various subject areas of such research – school development, school culture, school as an organisation, teaching, professionalism and professionalisation of (prospective) teachers and pupils – demonstrates the extent to which methodological-methodological aspects are interrelated to subject-related findings. The resulting conception of documentary research on and in schools is based on a systematization of the research field ('mapping the field'), which is primarily based on study reviews, and was formulated as a research program in which cross-disciplinary findings are recorded. The reviews as well as the research program can and should serve as starting points for future research in the context of school research on and in schools with the Documentary Method ('inspiring the field'). The project results are mainly presented in five anthologies edited by NeDoS-members and published by Klinkhardt-Verlag in the series "Dokumentarische Schulforschung" (Documentary Research on and in Schools), which was founded as part of the network's work.
