Final Report Abstract

With five manuscripts, the story of 'Flos und Blankeflos' is by far the best surviving vernacular work of the entire Middle Low German narrative literature. Nevertheless, this form of the material, which is widespread throughout Europe, has so far received little attention in research. The new edition, which is provided with modern translation and commentary, and which also takes into account other fragmentary versions (Trierer Floyris, Flors inde Blanzeflors), allows students and researchers alike to study the Middle Low German version and the Ripuarian fragments in the context of other German and European versions.
