Cross-Talk Between the Heart and the Haematopoietic Niche in Post-Myocardial Infarction Lesion Remodelling (P09)

Subject Area Cell Biology
Cardiology, Angiology
Term from 2020 to 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 422681845

This project studies the cross-talk between cells of the haematopoietic system with acute cardiac lesions. Cardiac ischaemic injury triggers persistent changes in haematopoietic stem cells and downstream progeny that infiltrate the injured heart. Studying DNA methylation, transcriptional regulation, and metabolic cues, P09 will characterise upstream changes in haematopoietic cells and in the bone marrow niche, as well as effects on cellular composition and interactions in post-MI lesions. The project aims to establish modulators of the haematopoietic response, and to identify common traits between murine and human haemato¬poietic response patterns that may subsequently be targeted therapeutically to improve cardiac wound healing and post-ischaemic remodelling.
